From Basement Beginnings to Industry Leader

What started in a basement with four employees and a vision to provide specialized directional drilling services has grown into two decades of hard work, strong partnerships, and steady expansion across the West Coast.

Founded in 2006 by Billy Kilmer, Jr. Accu-Bore was built on a simple idea: provide great customer service by delivering directional drilling work accurately and reliably. The company name itself reflected that mission, combining “accurate” and “boring,” to form Accu-Bore which, today, is recognized throughout the industry.

In the early days, the company operated out of Arroyo Grande, California, where Billy and his small team worked to establish relationships and identify customers while building the business from the ground up. The first year consisted of just four employees, a small operation with big ambitions.

Worked started as a specialty subcontractor focused on directional drilling of gas and communications infrastructure.  In 2007, Mike Robirds, while working as a Project Manager for a Federal Contractor hired Accu-Bore to perform directional drilling on a perimeter security upgrade at Vandenberg Air Force Base. The team installed communications and electric infrastructure to support upgrades around Space Launch Complex 6, a foundational project that helped establish the company’s reputation for quality work and reliability.

As opportunities grew, so did the company’s reach. Accu-Bore completed extensive work alongside companies like ARB, performing directional drilling services for gas infrastructure projects throughout California. Those early partnerships not only helped grow the business but also led to relationships with many of the team members who are still part of the organization today.

Additional projects soon followed at Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach and later at Camp Pendleton around 2008–2009, expanding Accu-Bore’s experience in utility and infrastructure work. Throughout those early years, the company remained heavily rooted in California’s Central Coast.  In 2010, Mike left the Federal Contractor and joined Accu-Bore as an owner.  Soon, an office in Roseville was opened in 2011 and then a Benicia location followed in 2013.

Technology and day-to-day operations looked much different twenty years ago. Cell phones were still relatively new in the field, paperwork was time-consuming, and tracking data was far less streamlined than it is today. Despite the challenges, the smaller scale and simpler processes created an environment where teams learned quickly and adapted as they went.

For 20 years, Accu-Bore has continued to grow through hard work, strong customer relationships, and a commitment to quality. What began as a small directional drilling company on California’s Central Coast helped lay the foundation for what would become Charge. Today, Charge continues to build on that legacy, driven by the same values of partnership, dedication, and innovation that have been part of Accu-Bore’s story since day one.
