Shingle Springs Fire Hardening
Shingle Springs, California
ABD was the first contractor to be selected for phase one in a program to underground 10,000 miles of power lines for wildfire safety in high-risk areas. The crew installed a total of 9,120’ of electrical conduit via horizontal directional drilling and open cut along Shingle Springs Road in 3, 4, and 6-inch diameters. Once the conduit was safely installed and the area restored, the overhead electric facilities could be converted underground, and poles, wires, and related equipment removed above ground. This project was especially challenging due to harsh soil conditions, but the crew delivered on schedule with zero incidents.
