Avila Beach
San Luis Obispo, California
ABD crews were treated with spectacular views when replacing a section of exposed/leaking natural gas service over a coastal bluff, which happened to lie within the historic territory of the Chumash people. Crews worked with monitors who were on site to inspect the spoils and make sure nothing was misinterpreted or removed during construction, hand digging all potholes and bellholes to avoid disrupting anything of historical significance. The new pipeline was installed parallel to the path of the existing pipeline. Once in place, the new service connected to the distribution system and brought into service, and the old pipeline was abandoned.
