Expectations:  Tactical Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage major components of Safety Management Program
    • Employee engagement within the Safety Program, including Grassroots Safety
    • Risk identification and mitigation – forward-looking approach to preventing injuries and safety incidents
    • Field Safety Program, including jobsite audits, incident investigation, lessons learned
    • Safety training requirements and content
  • Participate in development of strategic vision for the Safety Program, including development and communication of program components, tracking of compliance with program components, and active engagement with Operations related to the program
  • Provide safety leadership and ensure compliance with corporate and industry safety standards, implement safety directives, assist with the development of the training program and improve safety performance
  • Identify industry best practices, through partnership with other contractors and clients, and establish safety policies and procedures to enact
  • Manage Field Safety teams throughout California and Oregon
  • Collaborate with Field Operations Leaders to develop common sense approaches to safety, and identify and address safety performance and trend analysis
  • Represent Charge with utility and contract clients on matters relating to safety performance
  • Oversees incident reporting process to ensure:
    • Immediate notification to internal stakeholders and clients
    • Drafting of incident reports from safety or field personnel
    • Review and approval of accurate and timely reports
    • Submittal of incident reports to appropriate clients
  • Conducts and oversees incident investigation, when needed, including interviews with witnesses, documentation of site conditions, determining root cause analysis, and sharing lessons learned
  • Participate in initial emergency response when incident requires additional resources on-site

Qualities, Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent experience preferred
  • 10 or more years in construction safety with increasing responsibilities
  • 5 or more years in utility construction (California experience preferred)
  • OSHA Certifications – OSHA 30, OSHA 500 and 501 (preferred)
  • Well-versed in Safety Management Principals, including Behavior-Based Safety, OSHA Safety Management Guidelines, ANSI Z-10 or ISO 45001
  • Experience with record-keeping requirements and best practices
  • Familiar with utility construction standards, processes and hazards
  • Ability to support Field Operations in execution of safety measures
  • Good communication skills – written and verbal
  • Focus on problem-solving approach to challenges
  • Collaborative and able to work with diverse workforce
  • Highly organized, proactive and self-starter


Compensation salary exempt, DOE, + bonus potential, + 100% paid full benefits for you and your family, generous paid time off, and an employer funded retirement plan. You must successfully pass a background and drug test prior to start date.
